Tech Mahindra Global Chess League Season 4: Magnus Carlsen Returns for Title Defense with One Million Dollar Prize Pool

The fourth edition of the Tech Mahindra Global Chess League will kick off on September 5, 2026, and run until September 13. The tournament offers a prize pool of one million dollars. Six teams will compete in a double round-robin format, followed by a best-of-two final. Magnus Carlsen will return to defend his title for Alpine APL Pipers after skipping last season. Stars like Viswanathan Anand, Anish Giri, Arjun Erigaisi, Alireza Firouzja, Koneru Humpy, Harika Dronavalli, and Divya Deshmukh will participate. Javokhir Sindarov will serve as Icon board for Fyers American Gambits. However, Gukesh and Praggnanandhaa have opted out. The event, scheduled just two days before the Chess Olympiad, raises concerns about player fatigue. The organizers plan to stream the matches live for global audiences.
